Baby Blues Luncheonette
Baby Blues Luncheonette in Brooklyn is more than just a “good place to eat”โฆ it might be the best breakfast Iโve ever had and one I havenโt stopped thinking about since.
Inside, the Brooklyn breakfast and brunch spot is a small yet cozy diner with vintage charm. Giving juke joint energy, its retro interior is lined with eclectic knick-knacks and throwback items in every nook and cranny. All of this makes for a surprisingly intimate vibe that feels like youโve stumbled into someoneโs funky kitchen: inviting, warm, colorful, and full of character.

We got theย “Platoโs Plate,” which comes with soft scrambled eggs, crispy bacon strips, grated halloumi cheese, slices of fresh avocado, and a warm piece of the fluffiest pita you’ll ever have. Theย “Zorba Plate”ย was by far my favorite and quite possibly the best thing Iโve ever eaten. The dish features two fried eggs, a slice of grilled halloumi, perfectly seasoned Greek potatoes, fresh heirloom tomato slices, and a generous side of creamy tzatziki. There are no words to describe the explosion of flavors that occurred when everything was combined. I was overwhelmed, in the best way possible by the dish and the burst of flavor that awaited me in every bite.
We couldnโt resist finishing off the meal with the “Baklava Banana Babycakes,” (try saying that three times fast without tripping up), two fluffy, cloud-like pancakes with banana slices both tucked inside the batter and layered on top. Theyโre finished with a generous sprinkle of baklava crumble and a cartoon-style square of butter that slowly melts into every bite. These pancakes are pure comfort: rich, indulgent, and almost too good to be true. They reminded me of the kind of dish only your grandma could make, ideally on a Sunday morning after church: warm because it was made with love and better than anything you could ever recreate yourself.
While the dishes may look simple on paper, this joint is far from your average breakfast spot. Baby Blues Luncheonette nails that rare blend of creativity and skill in their technique and execution, elevating everyday brunch staples into something unforgettable with bold flavor, vibrant presentation, and a flair most restaurants can only dream of accomplishing. Every element is fresh, colorful, and perfectly seasoned. Itโs the kind of place that reminds you how good breakfast can really be when itโs done right. Whether youโre a New York local passing through the neighborhood or just in town for a quick visit, this is one Brooklyn spot youโll want to add to your list….and trust me, youโre going to want to come hungry.
