Shana’s Quick Picks: Flour and Weirdoughs

Flour and Weirdoughs
Located in the Key Biscayne area, Flour and Weirdoughs is an artisanal bakery offering both breakfast and brunch services. Ranked as Miami New Times’ Best Bakery of 2022, this bakery is known for its commitment to tradition, milling its own organic flour in-house and baking everything fresh daily. With their classical yet fun approach to baking, the team at Flour and Weirdoughs honors traditional techniques while embracing creativity, grounding their efforts in their love for all things bread.

From the main plates selections, the “Eggs a la Huancaina” is a hearty and satisfying option, pairing golden brown Latkes with sunny side up eggs and spicy Huancaina — a “creamy, cheesy chili sauce made with aji amarillo” — with a side salad for additional flair. The “Turkish Eggs” marries a garlicky, Greek yogurt base with smoky chili butter and cilantro, topped off with two sunny side up eggs and slices of sourdough toast for good measure. The “Three Pancakes” is a stack of perfectly proportionate pancakes with your choice of two toppings. From the selection of pecans, blueberries, chocolate, coconut and bananas, we went with the chocolate and banana combination which did not disappoint as these just might be the best pancakes in all of Miami.

Though we arrived at a later time in the afternoon for brunch and most of their pastry items were sold out by this point, we did manage to snag their Almond Banana Chocolate Croissant, an option our host said wasn’t typically still available by that time of the day. In just one bite, I could see why. I was instantly transported to croissant heaven by way of buttery, flakey, gooey layers of bananas, melted chocolate and crunchy almond pieces. It was the dreamiest croissant I have ever had and would make the drive back to Key Biscayne for this croissant alone.

Overall, a visit to Flour and Weirdoughs is a must for bread enthusiasts and food lovers alike. With an eclectic mix of creative breakfast and brunch offerings as well as indulgent, comforting bakery classics, there’s something for every palate that will leave you craving more, no matter what you choose.
